Tattoo Care Instructions

Congratulations on your new tattoo!

Proper care is essential to ensure it heals well and looks vibrant.

Initial care (Day 1-3)
  • Leave the Second Skin On: Keep the second skin bandage on for 24-48 hours as advised by your tattoo artist. It acts as a barrier against bacteria and keeps the tattoo hydrated.

  • Monitor the Tattoo: It's normal to see some plasma, ink, and moisture under the bandage. This indicates the skin is healing.

Removing the Second Skin (End of Day 1-3)
  • Gentle Removal: To remove the bandage, slowly peel it off under lukewarm water to reduce discomfort. Start from the edge and pull back gently.

  • Clean the Tattoo: After removal, wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a paper towel or air dry.

If the second application of Second Skin is given, reapply and leave it on for up to 5 days, and repeat the steps listed above.

Subsequent care (Days 4-7)
  • Moisturize: Apply a thin layer of a recommended fragrance-free moisturizer or tattoo ointment. Reapply as needed to keep the tattoo hydrated.

  • Avoid Scratching: As the tattoo heals, it may itch or peel. Refrain from scratching or picking at it to avoid damage.

Mid Healing (Weeks 2-3)
  • Continue Moisturizing: Keep the tattoo moisturized to prevent dryness and promote healing.

  • Be Cautious with Water: Avoid soaking the tattoo in water (such as swimming or baths). Showers are fine but keep them brief.

Final Healing (Weeks 4-6)
  • Observe Skin Texture: Most tattoos will appear healed, but the area might still be delicate. Continue moisturizing until fully healed.

  • Sun Protection: After healing, apply sunscreen to avoid fading from UV exposure.

Benefits of Second Skin:
  • Enhanced Healing: Second skin promotes a moist healing environment, reducing scabbing and peeling.

  • Protection: Shields against bacteria and friction from clothing.

Things to Avoid:
  • Direct Sunlight: Keep the tattoo out of the sun during healing.

  • Tight Clothing: Wear loose-fitting clothes to avoid rubbing on the tattoo.

  • Excessive Exercise: Avoid activities causing heavy sweating or friction on the tattooed area.

By following these instructions, you'll help your tattoo heal beautifully and maintain its vibrant colors. If you experience any signs of infection or have concerns, consult your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional. Enjoy your new art!
